Curriculum Offer and Entry Requirements
Our curriculum offer:
A levels and BTECs are much more academically challenging than GCSEs and even students with the top GCSE grades sometimes struggle with the adjustment. There is a considerable jump from the level of study required at GCSE to that needed at A Level or on other level 3 BTEC courses. You really need to take responsibility for your own learning. We will help you with independent learning by giving you tips and tricks in the weekly pastoral programme lessons and by providing an independent work wall full of independent work tasks for every subject area. An outline of the subjects available can be found here
Please read the attached document which gives you details about the entry requirements for study at Calder High Sixth Form. You must achieve 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, preferably with a B in the subjects that you would like to study at A Level. These 5 A to C grades include a grade 4 or higher in English Language and Maths.
If you do not achieve a grade 4 or higher in GCSE maths and English Language, there is the opportunity to attend re sit classes and re sit your exam whilst studying for your A Levels. This is not advised but we do have a structured plan in place to cater for any students in this position. A meeting will be held with you during the first week of the school year to clarify this programme with you.
