From September 2020, we have a new Personal, Social, Health and Economic scheme, which is taught weekly from Reception to Year 6, and continues in Calder High from Years 7 to 11. You can see the termly themes on our Long Term Plans for each class.
The programmes of study have been developed by the PSHE Association, the national body for PSHE education. The statutory guidance is comprehensively covered by learning opportunities for each key stage across the programme’s three core themes: ‘Health and Wellbeing’, ‘Relationships’, and ‘Living in the Wider World’, Even though much of ‘Living in the Wider World’ is not included in statutory requirements, this core theme is equally important as it covers economic wellbeing, careers and enterprise education and education for personal safety, including assessing and managing risk.
Alongside this, we will be working closely with our Local Authority who have been awarded additional funding to further support young peoples' mental health and wellbeing, particularly as a result of COVID-19.
