The PE and Sports premium provides additional, ring-fenced funding to schools to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.
We write a yearly action plan for our Sport Premium and assess the impact of this. We ensure our improvements are sustainable by investing in staff training and development and quality resources as part of this.
For the academic year 2020 to 2021, schools with 17 or more pupils receive £16,000 plus £10 per pupil and this will be based on the January census.
Pupils in Key Stage 2 have weekly swimming lessons with Calderdale Council for 1 term per year from Year 3 to Year 6. Currently these lessons take place at Sowerby Bridge Swimming Pool and are fully inclusive for all pupils to take part in. Achievement in swimming is celebrated in our weekly Golden Book Assemblies and end of term celebrations.
In July 2019 87.5% of our Year 6 pupils (7/8 pupils) achieved their National Curriculum Swimming Standard, which shows that pupils can:
- swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- use a range of strokes effectively
- perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
In addition, 28% achieved the Star Award, in recognition of high level swimming skills above the graded levels.
Swimming was not able to take place in Summer 2020.
Sainsbury's School Games
In September 2019 we were delighted to be awarded our Gold School Games Award, in recognition of all the great sporting activities our pupils take part in both in school and in local HX7 and Calderdale competitions. This builds on our achievements of Silver in 2017, 2016 and 2015 and Bronze in 2014.
Youth Sport Trust Quality Mark
In January 2017, we were also awarded our Silver Youth Sport Trust Quality Mark as recognition of the importance we place on Sport and PE and healthy active lifestyles across school. For 2020/21 we are working towards renewing this and even achieving their Gold Quality Mark too!
