SEND

The Calder Learning Trust believes that all pupils and students, including children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, should have an entitlement to, and the greatest possible access to, a broad and balanced education and should be integrated fully into all aspects of The Calder Learning Trust. This should be done without stigma, prejudice or discrimination.

To do this we follow the agreed guidelines in the SEND Code of Practice. We believe that, in order to identify, assess and provide effectively for students’ special educational needs, there should be the greatest possible degree of partnership between the student, staff, parents or carers and other outside agencies.

Our SENDCO is Amanda Gregory
Our governor responsible for SEND is Jean Bradbury

Information and Support for Parents

Each September we sent out a letter to parents of pupils and students with SEND which includes details of how your child will be supported in school, an overview of SEND for the year including drop-ins, meetings and how we can work together for the best support and outcomes for your child. Please see our 2024-2025 letters below.

Unique Ways

Unique Ways are a parent/carer led charity supporting disabled children and their families, helping them to lead ordinary lives. Their goal is to make sure that the voices of Parent Carers and their families are heard.

They provide a broad range of services for parent/carers, from training courses, peer support, signposting, discounts on family days out and one to one support (via sleep and form filling practitioners). They don’t restrict their services based on whether your child has a diagnosis or not, and instead work with anyone who feels they need their help.

Unique Ways also hosts Family Voice Calderdale, the Parent Carer Forum for Calderdale.  Family Voice Calderdale aims to ensure that parent/carers have a voice in shaping services for children & young people with additional needs in Calderdale, aims to seek and represent the views of the collective voice of parent/carers and aims to make sure that services provided actually meet the needs of parent/carers and their families in Calderdale.

Please visit their website here for more information. They are also on Facebook and share news of their upcoming events on there.
