Phase 3 (Years 9, 10 and 11)

All Faculties will set home learning as and when it is required, in line with the curriculum being taught and assessment schedules. This flexible approach ensures that home learning is always relevant and meaningful.

Teachers will explain to students how they can access their home learning tasks using their Microsoft Teams account. Students will be supported in developing their independence skills in managing their home learning, implementing effective revision strategies and meeting deadlines. These skills will assist students with their next stages in education, training or employment on leaving Calder High School.

Details of the character of home learning for specific faculties can be found below.

English

Students use the 'Tassomai'  app to complete their home learning. You can find out about it here. Students have been issued with a unique username and password. The app can be downloaded at Google Play and The App Store (Apple). Alternatively, students can log in and use the desktop version here.

Mathematics

Students will use the 'Sparx Maths' website to complete their home learning. You can find it here. Students have been issued with passwords and can see their teacher if they need it reset. Support is available at break and lunch in the LRC and for Year 11 in MS2 after school on Wednesday.

Science

All students are set weekly homework via Kayscience, accessed by app or web browser. Students in Years 10 and 11 are set separate biology, chemistry & physics tasks. Students have individual usernames and passwords. Any issues relating to these can be rectified by subject teachers. You can find out more about Kayscience by clicking on this link https://www.kayscience.com/faq

Geography

In Year 9, homework is set as and when necessary and is recorded on Microsoft Teams. In Years 10 and 11 the majority of Geography homework tasks are completed in a homework booklet. Reminders of these tasks are also recorded on Teams.

History

In Year 9 a single sheet is uploaded to Teams fortnightly. In Years 10 and 11 homework is completed in home learning booklets, week by week, with instructions set on Teams.

Physical Education

Students in Years 10 and 11, studying GCSE PE, use the website ‘PE Classroom’ to complete their homework https://thepeclassroom.com/login/ All students are provided with login details and should ask their subject teacher if in doubt about any aspect of homework completion.

Computer Science/ICT/Business

All homework is uploaded to Microsoft Teams with students having access to lesson resources.

Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

Homework is set on Microsoft Teams for all year groups in Phase 3. In Year 9 logins are not needed for other apps or websites. In Year 10 and 11 the character of homework varies, but all Sentence Builders are uploaded as and when they are required. Students have access to the Sentence Builders website https://www.sentencebuilders.com/ using the school email address and a class specific code.

EPR, Religious Studies and Sociology

All homework is uploaded onto Microsoft Teams.

Health and Social Care

All homework is uploaded onto Google Classroom. Students will have their own login for this and should ask their subject teacher if they need support with any aspect of homework in terms of access or completion.

Technology

Homework tasks are uploaded to Microsoft Teams as and when appropriate. In addition to this, students are frequently provided with tailored support materials during lesson time to aid completion. These resources are often personalised to meet individual learning needs and may not be available digitally. Students are therefore expected to take responsibility for the materials issued to them in class, store them securely and refer to them when completing homework and seek clarification from their teacher if any materials are misplaced or unclear. This approach ensures that all learners receive the most relevant support while maintaining fairness and consistency across the cohort.

Expressive Arts

Year 9 - All homework is uploaded to Teams with students having access to resources.

Year 10 and 11 Music: Students have a weekly practice diary and music theory homework tasks to complete. This is uploaded onto Microsoft Teams.

Year 10 and 11 Art, Drama and Photography: Students work towards a variety of deadlines. All necessary resources are uploaded to Microsoft Teams.

Recording Home Learning

In Phases 1 and 2 there is no need for staff, pupils or students to record home learning as it is consistent each week. In Phase 3, student work will be set on Microsoft Teams using the ‘Assignments’ function and students will be supported with accessing and using this.

All login details that our young people will need, will be shared with pupils and students in these first few weeks of September. If you need any help with logins or passwords, please ask your child to speak to their teacher in the first instance, or email icthelpdesk@calderlearningtrust.com
