Who are the PTA?
The Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) are a group of volunteer parents and carers who work closely with the school and it's staff to fundraise. The main aim of the PTA is to raise money to fund educational enhancement and curriculum enrichment activities.
At The Calder Learning Trust we have two PTA Committees - 1 for Calder Primary and another for Calder High. This enables the committees to fundraise for items and opportunities to sepcifically benefit the age groups and classes. Both are registered charities with a consititution and elected committee members.
Examples of PTA events and activities
Both PTA committees raise funds through a range of events and activities that Calder families can join in with, support and enjoy. They also hope to generate the support of, and donations from, the local community.
Calder Primary
Meetings are usually held on Friday mornings after Golden Book Assembly or sometimes on evenings at local venues and everyone is welcome. Minutes of the meetings are emailed home via Mrs Pickup to keep everyone up to date. There is a suggestions box in the primary main entrance and they are always happy to hear suggestions or ideas.
Calder Primary PTA play a significant role is reducing the cost of school trips by funding the coach travel. This enables all pupils to visit a wide range of experiences. They also fund our eggs to hatch into chicks each year and other funding requests from our Junior Leaders including School Council and Librarians.
Calder High
Calder High PTA work closely with school staff in the development of fundraising plans. Each year they ask subject departments to submit bids for funding from the PTA Over the past few years they have paid for water fountains around school, books for teacher CPD, Visualisers (Maths and Science), a student well-being garden, silk painting workshops (Art) and a student enrichment bursary.
