DUKE OF EDINBURGH

We are proud of the fact that a large number of our students successfully complete their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award while at The Calder Learning Trust. The award is launched to all Year 10 students in an assembly at the start of the academic year.
Students then have the rest of their time in Key Stage 4 to complete the 4 compulsory sections of skills, volunteering, physical activity and expedition before moving on to Sixth Form Colleges or the world of work. Many students enjoy the experience so much that they choose to complete the silver and gold awards after they have left Calder. The wide variety of skills and volunteering opportunities undertaken by our students, is not only a joy to witness, but really does show the diversity and breadth of interest of our cohort. The highlight of the award for many however is the self-organised, two-day expedition in the local area that takes place in the Summer Term.
