Admissions and New Starters
New Starters September 2021
Hello to our prospective pupils and families for September 2021! This is an unusual time for us all with COVID-19 and makes choosing a school and the transition into Reception a little bit trickier for everyone. The best advice we can give you is to find out as much as you can about each school (and visit if you are able to) to find which one works best for your child and family. Of course we hope that we get the privilege of teaching your child and seeing them progress and grow through our school.
In September 2020, our new Reception pupils started school having been unable to experience transition days as they usually would. However they all settled quickly into our Calder Primary family and have had a fantastic first half term. Their class teacher, Miss Moran, met the pupils and their families on Zoom and also liaised with their Nursery or EYFS setting key workers to find out more about their learning journeys so far. We sent the pupils a special ebook with lots of photos and created some videos of our school to help them find out more about where everything is. Whilst parents couldn't enter out classrooms, they could bring their children into our infant outdoor area to settle them into activities with their friends before they left them for the day, which they can do all year (but by now many children are sending their parents off to work so they can get on with their games together!) Pupils had some fun tasks to do at home including making an 'all about me' shoebox to bring in and share with their new friends.
Each pupil in Reception has a buddy in Year 6 who writes to them over the holidays and sends photos and little gifts too. Our pupils look forward to the role of buddy when they get to their final year and support them at playtimes, lunchtimes, with reading and more!
Open Days and Visits
Due to COVID-19 we are not holding our usual Open Week and are sad that we can't currently show anyone around during the school day (as our school is at it's best when it is full of happy, busy children!). However we are happy to arrange for you to have a tour of our school with Mrs Lambert, our Headteacher, after school and ask any questions you might have. We also have our prospectus here and are currently working on a virtual tour video too. Our school Twitter pages also give you a flavour of school life too - @CalderPrimary
As a 4-16 through school, once pupils are admitted to The Calder Learning Trust in Reception, they automatically continue through Calder Primary and Calder High and do not need to re-apply for a secondary place unless they wish to attend a different secondary school or take the 11+.
Our pupils use specialist facilities in Calder High including ICT suites, Technology rooms, Catering, Theatre, Dance Studio, Gyms, PE Fields and more. The Calder Learning Trust Head of MfL teaches Spanish from Reception to Year 6 and pupils in Key Stage 2 have additional specialist tuition in Music, Art and DT from Secondary staff. Consequently they are more familiar with the site and the staff before they move into Year 7.
Further information regarding admission arrangements can be found on the Calderdale Council website
We welcome within-year admissions and we have vacancies in some year groups in school and a waiting list in others. Please email our office at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange an appointment to visit our school, meet our teachers and pupils and find out more about us.
Our school uniform is available to purchase at Shaw Hardcastle in Halifax or online at https://myclothing.com/ and search for Calder Primary School.
