Sports Premium
The PE and Sports premium provides additional, ring-fenced funding to schools to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.
We write a yearly action plan for our Sport Premium and assess the impact of this. We ensure our improvements are sustainable by investing in staff training and development and quality resources as part of this.
School Swimming
Pupils in Years 5 and 6 have a block of swimming lessons in a group of up to 4 pupils at our local Spring Meadow Pool with our Calder Learning Trust PE Teacher who is a qualified swimming teacher. Achievement in swimming is celebrated in our weekly Golden Book Assemblies and end of term celebrations.
In July 2023, 92% of our Year 6 pupils achieved the National Curriculum attainment level in swimming.
School Games Award
In September 2023 we were delighted to be awarded our Gold School Games Award, in recognition of all the great sporting activities our pupils take part in both in school and in local HX7 and Calderdale competitions. This builds on our achievements of Gold in 2022 and 2019, Silver in 2018, 2017, 2016 and 2015 and Bronze in 2014.
Unfortunately COVID has meant schools were not able to achieve a 2020 or 2021 School games mark.
Sports Clubs
We hold a variety of after-school clubs and coaching for each class, at least once a term. These have included:
- Football club with local coach Chris Howarth
- Judo club lead by Tony Devine from Judo Excellence in Hebden Bridge
- Key Stage One and Two Dance Clubs led by our specialist dance teacher
- Gymnastics training with Trainer Rayner from Diamonds Gym Club
- Summer Athletics clubs
- Rounders
- Multi-Sports
- Handball
- Cricket with the Cricket Asylum
- Netball
Competitions
We have entered competitions organised by HX7 (our local cluster of schools) and in the Calderdale School Games, including:
- Sportshall athletics
- Netball
- Unihoc hockey
- Lower KS2 and Upper KS2 Gymnastics
- Cross Country
- Football
- Rounders
- Cricket
- KS1 Multi-Skills
